About Us:

Founded in 1915 under the name “Consorzio Approvvigionamenti Metallurgici e Meccanici”, Camfin S.p.A. is a historic Italian holding company, controlled by Marco Tronchetti Provera, which over the years has made investments in the energy, real estate and automotive sectors.

Today, the main investment is the shareholding in Pirelli & C. S.p.A. equal to around 14,1% of the share capital, an asset in which it acts as a stable shareholder through a long-term partnership with China National Chemical Corporation Ltd (ChemChina).

In 2020, Camfin expanded its activities to include private equity investments: in this context among other things, it entered a partnership with Longmarch Holding s.r.l., the vehicle of the Chinese Niu family, for investments through its subsidiary Camfin Alternative Assets.

Our Story

The “Consorzio Approvvigionamenti Metallurgici e Meccanici” was founded in 1915, operating in the iron and steel and metallurgical sectors, managing the purchase of raw materials on behalf of its shareholders.

In the late 1930s the company also started marketing liquid energy products. In the early 1950s, Silvio Tronchetti Provera began to manage the company on behalf of the Falck Group, where he was also a manager.

In 1965 Silvio Tronchetti Provera, who had in the meantime become a shareholder, was appointed as Chairman.

At the start of the 1970s, partly due to the global oil crises and the increased value of oil, energy was chosen as the company’s core business.

In the early 1980s the Tronchetti Provera family acquired control of the company. In the same period, the corporate structure differentiated with Camfin S.p.A. acting as the financial front-end, and Cam Energia e Calore S.p.A. handling operational management. This was the start of the company’s journey into Italian finance as a holding company.

In July 1986 Camfin was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.

In 1994 Camfin divested its industrial raw materials division and focused its business model on the energy sector and its shareholding in Pirelli&C.

In 2013 Camfin's shares were delisted following a takeover bid by Lauro 61, a corporate vehicle owned by the Marco Tronchetti Provera family, the Clessidra Group, Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit.

In 2015 Camfin and China National Chemical Corporation (ChemChina) finalised a long-term partnership which, through the vehicle Marco Polo Industrial Holding, led to the launch of a takeover bid on Pirelli & C. SpA, whose shares were delisted in November 2015.

In 2017 as part of the industrial project that led Pirelli to focus on the Consumer segment, Camfin and Chemchina launched a new listing of Pirelli on the Italian Stock Exchange, which was finalised in October 2017.

In 2020 Camfin entered into a partnership with Longmarch Holding s.r.l., in Camfin Alternative Assets, to develop private equity activities in the mobility and healthcare sectors.

Today Camfin, whose core business remains focused on managing the equity investment in Pirelli & C. S.p.A. (slightly over 14% of the issuer’s share capital), is controlled by Marco Tronchetti Provera through Marco Tronchetti Provera & C. S.p.A. and is partially-owned by Unicredit S.p.A., Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A., Longmarch Holding s.r.l., Fidim s.r.l., Massimo Moratti and Finanziaria Alberto Pirelli s.r.l.
